Sardinia-Cala Brandinchi

Read all the guide books and they will tell you that THE beach to see is Cala Brandinchi, or Little Tahiti as it is known. The guides tell of powder white sand and turquoise blue shallow waters. This turns out to be true, and not a travel agents attempt to lure you.

We arrived at the beach on a Sunday afternoon, just a note of caution, if you follow the Sat Nav it will take you to a locked gate, and no alternative route. It took us a good 30 minutes to find the new entry to the beach, and the reason for their locked  gate soon became apparent. the area has been somewhat sanitised, a huge gate controlled car park greeted us, and a sign saying Beach VERY busy. We pressed on and paid the usual 1 euro per hour charge, this seems to be the case everywhere we have been, it is always 1 euro, which to be fair isn’t extortionate compared to prices we pay in the UK for parking.

The beach area itself is very commercialised, with a large beach bar, toilets, lockers etc, and on the day we arrived there was a live jazz band playing. The prices at the bar were not overly steep, and compared well to other bars that we had been in around the area. Once on the beach, despite the earlier signage, it wasn’t overly busy, and there was plenty of room to socially distance. The water was lovely, so warm, and the sand was exactly as described, soft and white. The only slight disadvantage is that the water is so shallow, great for families, however if you want to go for a swim, you need to walk out quite far.

We arrived on a warm late afternoon, and if you want to avoid the crowds at this popular and idyllic destination, then this seems to be the ideal time to arrive.

Just a word of warning, this beach, due to the tourist hype gets really busy, people descend it their thousands, we were very lucky to find it relatively quiet, this is generally not the case. On the up side, it is everything promised, soft talcum sand, beautiful water, and stunning views. My advice to miss the crowds, or at least beat them to the good spots, is to arrive early, or late afternoon. Also to be noted, this is not Sardinias only great beach, there are many, a great excuse for getting out there and finding the gems.
